What Is a Slewing Drive?

A compact rotary gearbox built around a slewing bearing for high integration, large reduction ratio and easier field use.

A slewing drive is a specialized reduction product derived from the slewing bearing. It integrates the bearing, gearing, seals, housing and drive interface into one assembly,
so the unit can carry radial and axial loads while transmitting torque for rotation. Because the slewing ring’s inner and outer races form the structural base and the rotating path,
the drive can provide continuous 360° motion and accept a power source mounted on the same frame—often called a rotary reducer, turntable reducer or drive turntable.

By transmission type, slewing drives are commonly gear-driven or worm-gear driven; by enclosure they may be open or closed.
Open gear turntables are familiar on excavators and tower cranes as the final stage of a reduction chain, usually paired with a planetary reducer upstream.
Integrated worm-gear slewing drives—especially enveloping-worm designs—raise torque capacity and positioning accuracy, and are well suited to digital control on solar and wind tracking,
